Yorktown (YK) Continuous Monitoring Station (YRK006.77)

Location: N 37º 14’ 39.54” W 76º 31’ 27.48”
Tributary: York River
Salinity regime: Polyhaline
Mean tidal range: 0.7 meters
Mean water depth: 2.2 meters
Adjacent water: The Yorktown station is located southwest of the York River channel, approximately 6.8 nautical miles upstream from the River’s mouth.
Landscape: The station is located approximately 200 meters from shore. Sparse beds of submerged aquatic vegetation dominated by eelgrass (Zostera marina) occur shoreward of the station.
Monitoring Period: This VADEQ funded station was established on July 2, 2003. Data is available at 15 minute intervals from July 2 to December 1, 2003, February 27 to November 30, 2004, and February 28 to December 5, 2005. There is a gap in the data from September 9 to October 16, 2003 when the station was destroyed by Hurricane Isabel. No further deployments are scheduled for this station.
